Southern Heating Fuels was born in 1989 with Matthew O’Donoghue, he was a one-man heating fuel supplier.
Matthew’s original business was servicing diesel fired boilers and central heating systems in homes and commercial premises.
The diesel delivery service all started by chance when one Friday afternoon he was called to the Oxford Tavern in Christchurch as their boiler was not going. They had run out of diesel with no deliveries available until Monday.
Matthew’s customer focus and can-do attitude saw him fill a couple of 200L drums with diesel from the local service station. He then carted the drums into the Tavern on a sack barrow and hand pumped the fuel into the diesel tank.
In the following weeks, more and more hotels were running out of fuel on the weekends and after hours so Matthew set up an old Bedford truck (pictured above) with drums on the back and provided his services as an emergency diesel fuel supplier. The company grew from there.
Our loyal client base exists today thanks to Matthew’s founding values of hard work, customer service, and a can-do attitude.
We still pride ourselves on offering a personalized service and are proud to have been servicing the locals of Christchurch & Canterbury for over 30 years.
In 2013, Matthew founded our sister company, Southern Biofuels Limited to produce and sell B20 Biotherm, which offers a clean, green, reliable alternative to meet your fuel needs.
